The Tau Cross

The Tau Cross, a symbol embraced by St. Francis of Assisi, represents a commitment to humility, service, and transformation. For Francis, it was a sign of blessing, a mark of belonging to God, and a call to live out the Gospel with authenticity and compassion. In my own practice—whether in chaplaincy, counselling, or supervision—I intentionally bring these Franciscan values to life. The spirit of the Tau shapes the way I journey alongside others, offering a space of deep listening, reflection, and holistic care.

This symbol reminds me that true Franciscan presence is about meeting people where they are, holding space for their experiences, honouring their spiritual and faith journeys, and supporting them in their growth and discovery.

About Nathan

About Nathan

My name is Br Nathan-James SSF (The Rev Darryl Harris). I am a religious brother and an ordained priest with training and experience across several disciplines, including health, education, theology, and counselling. My career has been dedicated to supporting others through times of challenge and transformation—first as a nurse working with adolescents in hospitals, community health, outreach, and crisis services, then as a chaplain providing pastoral and spiritual care in schools. These experiences shaped my deep commitment to holistic support and reflective practice. Now, having completed accredited training in professional clinical supervision, I am continuing to expand my knowledge and experience through further study, providing a reflective space to enhance ethical care and professional growth for helping professionals.

I have extensive experience in the helping professions. Initially trained as a Registered Nurse, I focused on working with adolescents across various settings: a specialised inpatient adolescent unit, an adolescent community health outreach service, and a youth crisis accommodation service. Additionally, I volunteered on a youth suicide prevention crisis line.

Seeking a deeper way to serve, I pursued training and formation as a member of the Society of St Francis (SSF), an Anglican Religious Community. During my time with SSF, I engaged in pastoral missions to parishes and schools alongside fellow brothers. It was then that I discovered a passion for school chaplaincy. Motivated by this calling, I completed studies in theology and education, eventually becoming an ordained priest in the Anglican Church and transitioning into full-time school chaplaincy.

In my role as Chaplain, I regularly engaged in both formal and informal pastoral conversations with students, parents, and staff. These conversations covered a wide range of issues, including relationships, mental health, sexuality, the meaning and purpose of life, adverse experiences related to church and religion, and issues of child abuse and neglect. The depth and complexity of these conversations led me to pursue formal studies in counselling to strengthen my ability to support those in need.

This journey has deepened my desire to support fellow professionals in pastoral, counselling, and related fields. To this end, I have completed accredited training in professional clinical supervision and am presently engaging in further study to expand my knowledge and experience. My diverse background, training, and experience uniquely position me to assist helping professionals in reflecting on their practice—enhancing their capacity to provide ethical and effective care while fostering their professional growth.

I warmly welcome enquiries from professionals in various roles, including teachers, healthcare workers, chaplains, ministers of religion, youth workers, and pastoral carers. Through supervision, I offer a safe and reflective space for individuals to grow in confidence, resilience, and effectiveness, both personally and professionally.
